March 20 Monthly meeting - Margy O’Brien Rekindle or ignite a fresh interest in keeping a sketchbook. Using a variety of natural objects (provided) we will hone our observation skills, overcoming the visual complacency that sometimes sneaks up on us. Bring paper or a favorite sketchbook and pencils or other favorite drawing materials. Margy will introduce a few techniques to increase our awareness.
She will show some of her journals and talk about the benefits of keeping a sketchbook.
Margy received her BFA from the University of Arizona, and has lived and worked in New Mexico for over 30 years. She worked as a scientific illustrator and public school art teacher before focusing on her artwork full time.
Margy works in several media, melding her dual interests in art and nature. She has exhibited in galleries and juried shows, illustrated books and publications, created artwork for museums and interpretive exhibits and completed several ceramic tile public art projects.
Keeping watercolor sketchbooks and nature journals has been an ongoing practice throughout most of her art career. These sketchbooks fuel her studio work and provide a place to explore and learn directly from the natural environment. |
