Tom Blazier   3-Day Workshop

Refining the Landscape

Dates:  Monday, March 5 - Wednesday, March 7

Location: New Mexico Art League, 3409 Juan Tabo NE, Albuquerque and TBA plein air locations.

Hours: 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily.

Cost is $185

This workshop fills a niche for artists who want to refine their skills in painting the landscape. Each session is designed to problem solve challenges faced by plein air and studio painters.

Attendees must have an understanding of art basics and should have some experience painting outdoors.

Sessions will meet in the studio and outdoors.

Tom Blazier is an award winning landscape painter. His oil paintings are represented by Huey’s Fine Art in Santa Fe. He has a BFA degree in studio painting and attended workshops by Irving Shapiro, Ted Goerschner, Ned Jacob, Matt Smith, Cody DeLong and Peter Nisbet. Tom is paintout coordinator for Plein Air Painter of New Mexico.

Day 1 (March 5): ” What’s My Line?”

Establish and maintain the vision and intent for a painting from start to finish.

Use compositional road signs that lead to the center of  interest.

 

Day 2 (March 6) “It’s Not Easy Being Green”

Focus on correctly assessing greens in the landscape and mixing greens on the palette.

Make effective use of trees and vegetation as compositional elements.

Impart luminosity in skies with color modulation.

Strengthen your composition with effective placement of clouds.

Enhance mood with creative use of sky color.

Oil Painting Workshop Description, Beginners to Advanced

April 21-23, 2012 (Saturday-Monday) 3-Day Indoor/Outdoor Workshop; 9:30am-4:30pm

Tuition: $350 

As part of Masterworks of New Mexico 2012

In this exciting indoor and outdoor painting workshop, you will learn what to select and what to take out of your paintings to make a strong design and statement.

Daily morning demonstrations series, in oils from 9:30 am till noon, will give you an opportunity to see how a Master Artist works in a studio setting to perfect his outdoor studies and bring life to his photographs. The workshop is geared to all levels of artists.

Participants can work from their landscape photographs and/or outdoor studies.  During the first two afternoons, Albert will give individual help in the studio at each artists easel, to help you achieve better studio paintings, the third afternoon, weather permitting, we will paint on location, at Shady Lakes – with its incredible variety of subject matter. The workshop will include daily critiques and artists can paint in any medium.

This workshop is sponsored by the Rio Grande Artists Association. The dates are Saturday-Monday, April 21-23, 2012 times 9:30 to 4:30.

Workshop location: Expo New Mexico, Hispanic Arts Building, Expo New Mexico Fairgrounds, 300 San Pedro NE, Albuquerque, New Mexico.   Tuition $350.00.
